Quarter One Reflection: Key Questions to Guide Your Freelance Business into Quarter Two

As we wrap up the first quarter of 2025, it’s the perfect time to take a step back, reflect and set intentions for the months ahead. It’s hard to believe we’re already three months into the year! Whether Q1 felt like a whirlwind of productivity or presented unexpected challenges, reviewing your progress is essential for growth and success.

In my coaching sessions, I guide freelancers through a series of reflection questions to help them gain clarity and direction. These questions can help you assess what’s working, what’s not, and what changes you’d like to implement in Q2. Grab a cuppa and take some time to journal your thoughts as we go through them.

Key Questions for Your Quarter One Review

1. What Have Been Your Achievements in Q1?

Start by celebrating your wins! No matter how big or small, acknowledging what went well builds confidence and motivation. Did you secure a new client? Launch a new service? Improve your work-life balance? Recognising these achievements reinforces positive habits and progress.

2. What Didn’t Go Well and What Did You Learn From It?

Not everything goes according to plan and that’s okay. Instead of dwelling on setbacks, view them as learning opportunities. What challenges did you face? What insights did you gain? Finding the lessons or “gifts” in these experiences can make them feel more productive and less like failures.

3. What Do You Want to Leave Behind in Q1?

Reflect on what’s no longer serving you. Are there habits, projects, or commitments that drained your energy? This could be anything from undercharging clients to overcommitting to tasks that don’t align with your goals. Letting go of what’s not working creates space for better opportunities.

4. What Do You Want to Do More Of in Q2?

Think about the areas where you’d like to grow. Do you want to prioritise networking, content creation, or self-care? Maybe you want to introduce a new service or refine your processes. Identifying what you want more of helps you focus on what truly matters.

5. Are You on Track With Your Goals?

If you set goals or chose a word of the year, check in with them. Are they still aligned with your vision? If things didn’t go as planned, that’s completely normal! Progress isn’t always linear and sometimes goals evolve. Even recognising that a goal is no longer relevant is a form of progress.

Moving Forward Into Quarter Two

Regardless of how Q1 unfolded, there’s always something to be learned and carried forward. If you’re feeling stuck or need additional support with your business, coaching can help. Whether it’s refining your quarterly goals, tackling mindset challenges, or navigating freelancing hurdles, I offer various coaching options—including Voxer voice messaging and Zoom sessions—to support you on your journey.
