Hello! Want some support as a freelancer?
Here at The Freelance Lifestyle HQ, we’re all about building a freelance life that actually works for you here. Less ‘perfect day on a beach with a laptop (ahhh sand in the USB port!) and more ‘having a flexible plan for finding clients that doesn’t burn out you out’.
I’m Emma Cossey – freelance coach, mentor and big fan of doing business your way (especially if you’re neurodivergent, introverted or overwhelmed by all the “shoulds”).
Since 2009, I’ve helped freelancers go from frazzled to focused – through coaching, community and a sprinkle of tech wizardry. I also now offer workplace coaching for neurodivergent freelancers.
Is Coaching Right For You?
It might be if:
You’re ready to ditch the 9-5 (or make freelancing feel less chaotic)
You want accountability, confidence and practical support
You’re juggling freelance life with ADHD, parenthood or burnout
You want a cheerleader and someone who gently holds you accountable without the guilt trips.
What I Can Help With
- Helping to identify goals and an action plan
- Identifying income streams to improve income flow
- Developing regular routines to make business and life go smoother
- Creating boundaries and structure for better work/life balance
- Implementing a pitching routine to avoid the feast or famine cycle
- Identifying limiting beliefs that are holding you back (e.g. imposter syndrome, confidence at networking events, self-belief)
- Social media tools and online workflows to improve the productivity of your business
- I also accept Access to Work, and work with many neurodivergent clients creating custom coaching programs for them, including workplace coaching.
What I Can’t Help With
- I can’t promise you that I’ll turn you into a millionaire. In fact, I can’t even type that out without cringing. Some of my clients do happen to earn six figures, and others have a lovely income that allows them to pay the bills, have a little extra to do nice things, and still be able to work in a way that works for their lives and responsibilities. Success is different for everyone, but I’m probably not the right choice if hustle and six figures are words on your dream board.
- Coaching is about creating a space for you to find the right solutions and next steps. I do have lots of resources to help on the business front, but in coaching sessions, the focus is on finding the right method for you, not applying a cookie-cutter template.
- I’m here for accountability and support, but unfortunately I can’t do the actual work for you. However, I know lots of wonderful freelancers I can recommend if you do need further support with actioning. And if you can’t work out why you struggle to action things – we can look at that too in coaching!
- I’m not a financial or legal advisor, but can recommend people who are.
Ways To Work With Me
For Coaching, I have two primary ways I work with people – through Zoom calls or Voxer. Below are the packages.
Power Hour – £149
A 1-hour Zoom session to get clarity fast. Use it to:
Brainstorm services
Create your client funnel
Sort systems and tools
- Ask all your freelance questions
Click here to book a Power Hour
3-Month Freelance Fairy Godmother Coaching Package – £999
Your freelance fairy godmother (minus the wand, plus a plan past midnight)
2-hour strategy Zoom session
5 x 60-minute Voxer check-ins (these are usually taken weekly or monthly, and some even split it into 10 x 30 minute sessions)
3 months access to The Freelance Business Lounge
Book a free discovery call
Voxer Coaching (No Zoom Needed)
Voxer is like a voice note walkie-talkie — great if you’re camera-shy, on the move, or prefer slower-paced support. We can send voice notes and text based notes as well as uploads, but the key difference to tools like Whatsapp, is that when recording the audio, the other person can hear you live. It means conversation flows faster, but you still maintain flexibility. I’ve had clients used to get coaching while they walk back from the school run, or for clients with chronic health conditions where being on Zoom can take too many spoons. I have three options for Voxer:
Voxer Accountability Month – £149
2 x 15-minute weekly check-ins
Support, focus and small wins each week
Voxer Coaching Month – £149
1 x 30-minute weekly sessions for a month
Ideal for launches, big goals or mindset work
Voxer Half Day – £249
A morning of coaching for strategy, systems or mindset blocks
(Usually 9am–1pm GMT. Payment plan available)

I have a Level 7 ILM Diploma for Executive and Senior Level Coaches and Mentors

I also wrote a book all about freelancing, taking you through all the steps to get started! It’s available on Amazon in Kindle and paperback form.

Got an Access to Work grant?
I offer bespoke ADHD coaching packages for those who have an ATW grant, just get in touch to discuss more.
What a Session Actually Feels Like
My goal is that you come away from a session with a plan forward that you’re excited to implement. Sometimes, that looks like us mapping out that plan in Zoom whiteboards if you’re visual. Sometimes, it’s setting you a set of fun mini challenges to get the dopamine flowing. Sometimes it’s getting the sticky notes out. It’s different for everyone, and it’s important that we find a way that works for you – not apply a cookie-cutter template.
It’s not all about practical steps either. Sometimes, the biggest changes come from understanding yourself better, whether that’s how you stay motivated, a limited belief that no longer serves you, or knowing your values and how it impacts your decisions.
I’ll send you a thorough questionnaire beforehand, so I can really get to know your business, goals and how you work best. That means on the call, we can dive right in!
You can be in your pyjamas. You can have a brew on the go. You can brain-dump at me for ten minutes before we figure out what you actually need. You can turn up with a list of different questions to work through. That’s fine. That’s kind of the point.
It doesn’t end with the session either. I’ll send you notes, we can check-in, and if you’re in my community, you can carry on getting support from others too, so you see it through.
What Happens Next?
1. Book a free 15-minute discovery call It’s just a chat. No pitch, no pressure, no awkward sales moment. We figure out if we’d work well together and what kind of support would actually help you.
2. We discuss the right option for you Whether that’s a one-off Power Hour or something longer, after we’ve chatted about what you want to achieve, I’ll suggest what feels like the right fit, and you can always ask questions before committing to anything. I won’t ask you to make a decision on the call, I’ll follow up with an email and if you want to move forward, you can click and book using the links in the email.
3. We get started If you click on the link, you’ll be taken to the page to book in your session, and pay for it (unless you’re using Access to Work, in which case I’ll invoice separately). My system will also send you the contract and questionnaire. Then we just… begin. At a pace that works for you. You’ll also get a Notion page with your meeting notes, goals and any resources we discuss in the call.
Want to know a bit more about me?
I’m Emma, business and life coach for freelancers, i.e. the person who can help you figure out all of that stuff.
I’ve been freelance since 2009, and a trained coach since 2015. Known in some circles as #betterthangoogle (as I know the app, tools or hacks for nearly every situation). Through 1-1 coaching, I can help YOU get focused, get accountable, and get going.
As a freelancer with ADHD, I know how it feels to try and fit in, and do things in a way that everyone else does. Ooof, it’s uncomfortable! I’m here to help you throw out the rule book and build a freelance business that works for YOU.
Testimonials…
Zoom Coaching testimonials
“Emma is a sensitive and practical coach. She balances the sessions with teasing out the crux of a situation by asking insightful questions, with tips and tricks and ideas that help you solve blocks yourself. Emma has worked as an employee and also, as she is now, as an established freelancer. Knowing both sides of the fence gives her an immense credibility which coupled with her boundless wisdom and suggestions makes you feel nothing is impossible. I would highly recommend Emma as a professional coach to anyone wanting to bring success into their lives.”
Susie Boutal
“Emma has an amazing way of making you feel heard and understood. In the early days of setting up my business I needed a lot of help and it wasn’t always easy to find the right people. By pure synchronicity I found Emma and we just clicked! She is knowledgeable, generous with her information and most importantly, kind. After a couple of one-to-one sessions with Emma, I felt more empowered on the technical side of what us business owners have to do, and even though I still have a lot to learn, I know I can reach out to Emma again to get sound information that works! I highly recommend Emma to anyone embarking on a freelance lifestyle, she’s amazing!”
Mandy Deakin-Snell
“After just an hour with Emma I had clarity on where I was taking my business and an action plan to help me get it there. She gave me loads of ideas and helped me take a fresh look at what I was doing, as well as giving me motivation to get there”
Laura Agar Wilson
“Thanks to coaching with Emma, I’ve become much better at using my available time to do the things that matter to me, bring fun, challenge and novelty to the less interesting bits and most importantly, be kinder to myself. The last bit is the hardest, so having a coach like Emma who celebrates your wins and helps you to see the gifts when things don’t go as planned is not a luxury, it’s a must-have.
Working with Emma has helped me grow as a person and plant my business idea seeds. I’ve developed a programme for ADHDers, Creativity Crops, ADHD Ideas Farming, to do the same for others. Emma is also great at helping you discover new tools that work for you and your business. In a nutshell, Emma is a human fertiliser – the organic kind!”
Anj Cairns
“Emma is the first person I go to to talk about anything, whether it’s work, personal, or utterly random. She is a great sounding board whenever I need to vent, she has SO MUCH KNOWLEDGE that she is always happy to share and her practical approach always helps me calm down and identify exactly what’s getting in my way (and what I should do next). It’s unreal the amount that talking to Emma helps me live life. More than anything, she has helped me to believe in myself. She is always there, always kind, always encouraging and I LOVE HER.”
Daire Paddy
Voxer testimonials
Here’s what Laura said after a month of accountability Voxer:
“What can I say? Being a business owner can be a lonely old thing, and sometimes you just need some impartial and expert advice to call on. Emma has become that person for me. Not only is she incredibly knowledgeable, but she is also a calm, kind and thoughtful coach – genuinely acting as a cheerleader for my business. She has become an integral part of my business decision making and helped coax me into making some big ideas start becoming reality. If you’re looking for accountability with a pinch of tech and a whole lot of knowledge, you need Emma in your life.”
Laura Parker
Scaling Consultant, Shoreway Business Support
“Emma truly gets the struggles that come with running your own business and never makes me feel judged or inadequate. Instead, she offers support and encouragement, which has been a game-changer for my self-esteem.
One of the biggest benefits of having Emma as my accountability manager is the structure she brings to my life. She helps me break down overwhelming tasks into manageable steps and sets realistic deadlines. This has significantly reduced my head spins. I’ve been able to progress and get ahead of where I want to be.
She celebrates my successes, no matter how small, and helps me navigate any setbacks with practical advice and a positive attitude. She also understands that what works for one person might not work for another, so she adapts accordingly. Her positive energy and sense of humour make our sessions enjoyable and something I look forward to. Working with Emma has even shown a difference to those around me, they can see I’m more in control of what I want to achieve and how. And all from knowing how to give me the right nudge at the right time.”

Freelance Business Operations and Marketing Consultant, Create Better Things
“The Voxer package was great value for money and a really superb idea – I had Emma on hand, fully focussed on my business for 30 minutes every Thursday for four weeks. These intensive, bite-sized sessions meant that we could focus in on some business-related niggles that may have come up in the interim or questions that may have dropped into my head over the week. She really helped me to focus and prepare my new packages for the market. The platform Emma uses is also really useful because your conversations over text or voice are saved to return to later. I found Emma to be incredibly approachable, knowledgeable and non-judgemental, and because she has lived experience of neurodiversity, I felt I could be open about my struggles with dyslexia and dyscalculia and get tips on how to manage aspects of my business I was struggling with. I’ll be back for more ASAP!”

“Emma has been hands-down the best careers advisor I’ve ever had. With a rare combination of objective insight, pragmatic wisdom and individual compassion, Emma has motivated me to make the most of a negative career situation to kick-start the freelance career of my dreams; she assists freelancers in breaking down their goals into manageable tasks, provides highly useful, well-prepared and practical workshops and advice, providing insider knowledge and support, and her weekly mentoring sessions throughout the process were efficient, encouraging and friendly. Thank you Emma for all of your much valued help!”
